I’m a writer, a Zen practitioner.

For years, I taught literature and writing in the university. That life unraveled, and in the quiet that followed, I began to turn more fully toward the practices that had always sustained me beneath the surface: sitting in silence, shaping with my hands, listening for what might want to be said.

Mostly, I make things out of words. But sometimes, I get scared to begin. Then I turn to forms in which I have no training and no sense of the potential pitfalls — clay, shodo (Japanese calligraphy), painting, photography.

What links all of my work is an orientation: toward stillness, attentiveness, curiosity, and wonder.

I’m drawn more to experimentation than expertise, more to process than product. I care about what has been overlooked, disregarded, or discarded.

This site is a kind of open studio — a nonlinear, living archive of what I’m making and noticing.

You’re welcome to explore in any direction.
