crucible

I imagine myself as an alchemist and my car as a crucible.

When melted in an alchemical crucible, base matter was transmuted and elevated into its purer form.

I try to operate my vehicle as an alchemical vessel for transformation.

In that process, the car, the passenger and I, the ride, and even the app and algorithm and the Uberverse are purified, revealing that we all are also something more: we all were always something more.

All is a single whole: heaven joined to earth, the human to the more-than-human. The world is imbued in every nook and cranny with significance, message, and purpose. We are invited to see ourselves and each other as fragments of divine speech, bearing into the world some unique, sacred message.

I aim to discover, build, or improve the secret, sinuous highways that bind this meaningful whole together. Of course, I get paid to move a passenger from one place to another. But as an alchemist, I see each passenger as a message borne by the cosmos into my car. As an alchemist, my calling is to discern these sacred messages, ferried from one facet of the whole to another, and to transport them from one state of being to another.

So when the passenger closes the door, sealing our vessel for passage, two base elements thrown together, and I ask “How is your day going today?” I am also asking “What is the meaning of you? What can we mean to each other today?”
